College Morning Routine

I have recently realized just how important it is for me to have a set morning routine that will help me start my day on a good note, and keep me productive and happy throughout the day. It is so easy to get into an unhealthy spiral of sleeping in past your alarm and rushing to get ready, not being prepared and going to class. Being prepared is something that had always been important for me, it is just who I am I like to have everything ready and be ahead of the game in case something comes up. However, I found myself falling into a nasty habit where I would go to bed late, wake up late, eat nothing barely take care of my basic hygiene and rush to class extremely unprepared.

Now that I have a more set morning routine that I go through every morning I have found that it has increased my productivity throughout the day, and also kept me in a good headspace. I am more of an early bird, so most of my lectures are in the AM, but either way, I like to wake up around 6:30/7 am. One habit that I have really noticed making a difference in my morning is not going on my phone in the morning. It was a hard habit to break the first few mornings, however, after about a week it becomes so routine and you just don't even think about it. By not sitting on my phone scrolling through social media for an hour each morning I have (1) saved time, and (2) focused on myself, and the day ahead.

One thing that I love to start my day with is a cup of hot lemon water and a podcast, another thing I love in the morning is matcha or some type of green tea. This is going to help my digestion for the day, bloating and clear skin. matcha is a great source of some caffeine if you don't like coffee or don't want so much caffeine, it is usually the perfect amount and won't make you feel anxious like coffee does for some people.

Take the time to get ready. Do your skincare, put an outfit on that you feel confident in, brush your hair instead of throwing it into a bun etc. These aren't huge tasks, but by doing them you will feel better throughout the day, you won't be sitting in class regretting not taking more time to get ready.

Prepare your academic schedule. Writing down and realizing what you have to do that day for school is so important, so throughout your day it will be on your mind and it will force you to not procrastinate. One of the worst things I ever did was not writing things down at the beginning of the day and sitting down at 9 pm realizing I have loads of homework and exams to prepare for when I could have been working on it and accomplishing these tasks throughout the day instead of having a stressful cram sesh at night.
